Overview
Decision models are instrumental tools that empower health economists, policymakers, and practitioners to evaluate the expected impact of healthcare interventions. These models serve as systematic approaches to estimate the costs, outcomes, and uncertainties associated with different health strategies, facilitating informed choices that optimize healthcare quality and accessibility while supporting economic sustainability.
In this course, participants will delve into the foundational theories and advanced methodologies that underpin decision models in health economics. You’ll gain insights into the diverse types of decision models, including decision trees and Markov models. You will learn how to analyze completed models and consider how that analysis informs the problem. This is the third course in the Fundamentals of Health Economics certificate.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Specify a decision problem for developing a decision model.
- Identify the evidence needed for the decision model and explain how to include it in the model.
- Construct a decision tree or simple state-transition model.
- Analyse the model and interpret and present the results of the model.
