What is Regenerative Design?

Regenerative Design goes beyond energy efficiency and sustainable design by not only reducing the impact of buildings or developments on the environment, but also generating restorative positive impact. Regenerative Design creates efficient, equitable, and sustainable buildings by examining the physical environment and engaging with social and cultural considerations in the design process. It's a holistic approach that looks at materials, water, air quality, biodiversity, and the overall impact on communities and seeks to regenerate and restore them.

Regenerative Design is the first micro-course in four designed for Architecture, Engineering and Construction professionals and is brought to you by AU's RAIC Centre for Architecture and PowerED™. This course can equip you with the skills and knowledge to create buildings that give back to the environment, communities and the planet.

In this self-paced course, you will explore the regenerative design approach and the importance of integrated design teams working to achieve high-performing buildings. The course also explores how the passive environmental design benefits of the natural site and climate can be utilized to their fullest in the building design, as well as guide intelligent, active building systems through topics such as:

  • Introduction to Regenerative Design
  • The Integrated Design Process
  • Optimizing Performance Through Passive Design
  • Selecting Active Systems

Explore course's interactive content and benefit from the insights of experts and thought leaders in Energy Efficiency. Take part in an interactive Artificial Intelligence simulation where you can apply your knowledge and get immediate feedback. Work through the course at your own pace, on your schedule.

You'll learn to work with the physical environment and natural resources, incorporate social and cultural considerations into the design process, and develop a holistic approach to building design and operation. By taking this course, you’ll enhance your professional skills and contribute to a more equitable, sustainable, and regenerative built environment for all.
